Jewell Houston Academy Choir Class is a course open to all 5th and 6th grade students.  It is designed to give every student the chance to perform various styles and forms of vocal music, and also provides students with proper vocal training.  The class is a full year, graded elective course which meets during the student's scheduled time.  No experience or audition is necessary to enroll in the Choir class.  The class will sing songs that are in unison, canons, rounds, partner songs, and songs in two or three part harmony as well as songs in different languages. Just like any academic class, Choir Class has requirements and standards which must be met in order for the students to achieve success.

The technology(Computer Literacy) lab classes extends for one year instead of ½ year.  Students will be on either a 2-day or 3-day rotation.

Houston Academy as well as Aldine ISD seeks to develop and strengthen creative skills, build self-esteem, develop a sense of self-importance and individuality, encourage self-expression and stimulate imagination in children through the visual arts. 

By assisting and encouraging a child’s creativity, you set the stage for endless opportunities for that child’s imagination. A healthy imagination not only creates a resourceful and productive individual, but it also builds self-esteem, which is an important tool that will be used for the rest of that child’s life.

Houston Academy Visual Art classes consist of primarily two levels; Advanced and Intermediate/Beginner. The visual arts focus on drawing, painting, printmaking, water color, sculpture, art history and much more. Students will have learned and developed skills using all major elements and principals of design once they leave the art classroom. I hope you are your child enjoy this class and bring many memories!

Students have the opportunity to learn various instruments in Orchestra: violin, viola, cello, and bass.

We participate in school shows as well as competition, and our after school groups attends outside performances.

What to expect in Drama class? In drama we learn how to control our body movements and our voice.  We learn to focus our minds and speak in front of an audience.  In Drama we learn Theater terminology, how to write scripts, and theater history ... all while having fun.

The Houston Academy Dance Department is designed to educate dancers to be diverse, technically proficient, and passionate about their craft. While enrolled in the dance program, students will be able to embark on a journey of discovery and exploration of dance. We will study modern, ballet, contemporary dance, world dance, dance history, dance production, and dance performance.

 Students are REQUIRED to dress appropriately for every class.

Girls will need:

  • black camisole leotard
  • black shorts
  • black and pink convertible tights
  • split sole pink ballet shoes

Boys will need:

  • white t-shirt
  • black basketball shorts or jazz pants
  • black ballet shoes

Class includes a $20.00 Dance Fee
